Record tourism growth

Ecuador is the trending destination this year. During the first four months of 2014, Ecuador closed the period with a 17% increase in visitors, compared to the same period in 2013, welcoming 509,791 travellers. In April alone, Ecuador experienced an historic increase of 32%. In Ecuador, tourism revenue reaches almost $1.2 billion annually.

The primary markets attracted, with the largest number of arrivals per country between January and April are: Colombia, with 138,757 tourists; United States, with 78,876; Peru, with 58,328; Venezuela, with 29,777; Argentina, with 24,270; Spain, with 20,594; Chile, with 18,302; Canada, with 13,397, Germany, with 11,712; and Mexico, with 8,658.

In order to attract tourists, the Ministry of Tourism develops various diffusion, marketing and promotion strategies nationally and internationally, including the “All You Need is Ecuador” campaign, spread throughout 14 countries in Spanish, English, Portuguese, German and French. The target is to finish 2014 with 1.5 million visitors.

Ecuador also promotes investment. Through its Production Code it boosts five types of incentives: general; sectorial; special development economic zones; development of poor areas and growth of small and micro enterprises and popular and solidarity-based economic stakeholders; and, innovation and export of medium-sized enterprises.
